May Arts and Helmar Blog Hop Day One

Welcome to the first day of the May Arts and Helmar blog hop! You should have arrived here from Jen Matott's blog, but if you just stumbled across this post, you may want to start at Charlene Drigg's blog, so you don't miss a thing! The May Art Ribbonistas have teamed up with Helmar's Design Team to inspire you this holiday season. Please leave a comment on any of the stops along the way, and you will be entered to win May Arts Ribbon and Helmar Adhesives!

I had this large wooden dimensional Christmas tree from Kaisercraft that I wanted to glitz up a bit.

I painted it liberally with Helmar's Craft and Hobby PVA glue, and then sprinkled it with glitter (and yes, I am still sparkling and problably will be months from now!)

After my glue and glitter was all dry, it was time for my ribbon. Lots and lots of ribbon bows made from May Arts 5/8" Sheer Ruffle ribbon.

I used about 10 yards of this ribbon and just tied a single knot in each piece to cover the base of my tree.

I used Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to attach these bows, which worked out perfectly, because there were too many bows to have to wait long for my glue to dry!

So here is the finished product!

I hope you are enjoying Day One of this hop.  Now you need to head on to Carisa Zgloblicki's blog.

And just in case you get lost along the way, here's the rest of today's blogs.

I hope that you had a lovely weekend, and are getting ready for Thanksgiving!

I love layering my Cheery Lynn Designs Dies, because even though the cards aren't difficult, the results are stunning.  This card is really straight forward - no tricky cuts. But hopefully it will inspire you!

The new challenge this week is to create a tag using your Cheery Lynn Designs dies.  We would love to have you play along for your chance to win a $20 gift certificate to the store.

Designer Notes:

1.        Cut patterned papers to layer for base of layout as shown.  Ink all of the edges with dark brown ink and distress with water or distressing tool as desired.

2.       Add decorative machine stitching in black thread around the main panels.

3.       Cut a circle from corrugated cardboard. Paint with gesso.  Allow to dry.  Spray with Glimmer Mist, and paint areas with thick layers of Glimmer Glam. Allow to dry.

4.       Paint chipboard letters with Glimmer Glam.  Adhere to the corrugated circle.

5.       Stamp and die cut 6 layers of flower petals for each flower. Spray with glimmer mist and allow to dry.  Ink edges with brown ink.  Shape with flower shaping tools and assemble.  Add small amount of Dries Clear Adhesive and sprinkle with Gala Glitz.

6.       Stamp and cut two Leaf flourishes. Attach behind the floral cluster.

Scor-Pal and Hampton Art Wrap-Up

This time of the year, people are always on the look out for cute projects that are easily and inexpensively made, to had out as those last minute gifts.  This treat holder really fits the bill.  It was designed  to hold  Ghiradelli Chocolate Squares, but you could tweak the measurements to hold any treat that you would like to use. It's so quick to put this together using the Scor-Pal!  And since we are talking chocolate here - the sentiment stamp from Hampton Art was perfect!

Cut (2) red card stock pieces 7" x 6"for the top and bottom of the box. With the 6" side along the top fence, score at 2" and 4".  Turn a quarter turn, and score at 2" and 5".  Score the top and bottom corner pieces to add a 1/2" tab. e.g. For the upper left corner, score at 1 1/2", only down to the 2" mark.  Do this for all four corners and trim away the rest of the corner paper.

Cut decorative paper to cover the box top and bottom:
(5) 1 3/4" x 2 3/4"
(4) 1 3/4" x 1 3/4"
Ink the edges of the patterned papers using the Dark Moss ink.  Attach these papers to the box form before you assemble it - that way you can easily punch two holes into the top, to tie your ribbon through.  After the holes are punched, assemble the box top and bottom using Scor-tape.

Cut the transparency 9" x 10 1/4". Score at 1 7/8"; 4 3/4"; 6 5/8"; and 9 1/2".  Attach the tab using Scor-tape, and slide the sleeve into the box bottom. Add your treats, and top with the lid.

To decorate the box, stamp and emboss the Hampton Art sentiment, using gold embossing powder.  Cut using a die cut, and frame the cut with a nesting cut from red glitter paper. Add die cut holly leaves, and red Dew Drops for the holly berries.

Keep a few of these ready throughout the holidays!
